A New Year Prayer

God of every time and season: The past, present and future are in your keeping. As we journey into another new year, there is much that we fear and dread. The world that you created and love so much is in a huge mess. Sin and evil seem to fill every nook and cranny-individual and collective. War and hatred, violence and horrific human rights violations seem to be escalating; while love, peace and justice seem too little, too late.
As we begin this new year strengthen our resolve by filling us with your Holy Spirit's fruit and gifts; that we may be as salt, yeast and light in this troubled world.
May we pray and live more resolutely than ever your words that you have taught us Jesus: "Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven."
May your perfect shalom fill our beings to be shared with all peoples of every nation.
May we see and celebrate the beauty of your creation; and help us to live as responsible stewards of what you have given us.
Finally, in response to your super-abundant grace may we be ever grateful for each day to love and serve you and our neighbour in thought, word and deed. In Jesus' Holy Name we pray. Amen.
